Vladex BV is proud to support the Light My Candle NGO in Rwanda. Shortly after our operations began in the country, we discovered that Emmanuel Twagarimana, our Operations Manager, is a founding member of the organisation and dedicates a lot of time to the cause.
The non-governmental organisation was established in 2009 with a purpose of supporting children facing hardships and difficult conditions. The organisation is made up of 30 active members who offer their continued support.
Theory of Change
By providing financial, emotional, and educational support to children that need it the most, Light My Candle (LMC) will eliminate common societal barriers to success. By eliminating these socio-economic barriers, LMC will create an environment in which their students have equal opportunity to succeed financially and emotionally, thereby leading to an increased quality of living for themselves and their future families.
What Support is Offered?
While it started in 2009 as seven friends trading a night out to donate their time to help support vulnerable children, Light My Candle currently has thirty-three members who contribute between RWF 1,000 – 3,000 every month, depending on the resources available to them. These thirty-three members support twenty-two students in Rusororo Sector. These same members actively participate in the monitoring of the progress of the students they support, and are an inspiring example of sustainability.
At a recent annual event, clothes, schoolbooks and supplies, and other goods that had been donated and collected were presented to the children that Light My Candle supports.
These donations will help these children in their day-to-day activities and allow them to be comfortable and confident in their school environment.
